Belco: paper gift cards to reduce environmental impact
Belco has introduced paperboard gift cards with the aim of going green.
A spokesman for the company said that the new cards required 95 per cent less carbon to produce than the previous cards and were reusable, recyclable and compostable.
He said the move aligned with Belco’s sustainability drive.
The cards are manufactured by a Swedish-based company, Iggesund.
The company is part of the United National Global Compact, a pact encouraging businesses to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies.
Wayne Caines, Belco’s president, said: “At Belco, we are constantly seeking ways to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact both locally and globally.
“While this is a small measure, it is part of our larger strategy to become a greener company and every little bit helps us on our journey.
“From upgrading our vehicle fleet to all electric vehicles, to encouraging paperless billing, and now offering sustainable gift cards and more, we are doing all we can to ensure that we are continuously reducing our environmental impact.”
The gift cards can be given as gifts or donated to those in need of assistance.
They can be redeemed by calling 295-5111 or in person at Belco at 27 Serpentine Road, Pembroke.
