Environmental groups urged Cup Match spectators to avoid littering during the event tomorrow and on Friday.

Keep Bermuda Beautiful teamed up with Recycle Bermuda and the Government’s waste management team to encourage all attendees of this year’s event at Somerset Cricket Club to properly dispose of their trash.

Trash bags will be provided at the grounds, and each spectator spot will receive black bags for general trash and blue bags for recycling tin, aluminium and glass.

KBB thanked the team at the K. Margaret Carter Centre for its help in bundling the trash bags together. The organisation also praised the cricket club and MB Enterprise for their collaboration.

A KBB spokeswoman said: “Together, they aim to minimise trash and increase recycling during the two-day event.

“The Somerset Cricket Club looks fantastic and is ready to host over 12,000 fans and visitors.

“This year, the number of trash and recycling bins has increased, and they will be strategically placed around the grounds.

“Eye-level signs have been added to some blue recycling bins with blue bags, reminding spectators to recycle and what materials belong in the bins.

“All other trash can be placed in the red bins with black bags.”

Angel Smith, KBB’s executive director, expressed her excitement about celebrating her first Cup Match in her role with the organisation.

She also encouraged people to consider five key points to keep Bermuda beautiful: rethink your personal habits; refuse single-use plastic; reduce the amount of waste you generate; reuse eco-friendly reusable products as often as possible; recycle tin, aluminium and glass.
