Local activist to attend COP29 for Bermuda National Trust
A young Bermudian is set to represent the Bermuda National Trust, and the island, at an international conference on climate change to be held in Azerbaijan.
The BNT announced on social media that Noelle Young, an environmental activist and founder of the Youth Delegation of Bermuda, will attend the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP29, to be held next month in the city of Baku.
The organisation said: “This marks a first for the Bermuda National Trust, made possible by our membership of the International National Trust Organisation.
“It reinforces the idea that collaboration leads to greater achievements. We have strong confidence in Noelle and believe her insights will benefit Bermuda for everyone, for ever.”
Ms Young said she was grateful to the BNT for entrusting her with an “incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.
“It’s a privilege beyond words, and I am wholeheartedly committed to representing the Trust and Bermuda with everything I have,” she said.
“This is my chance to make a lasting impact, and I will give it my all.”
COP, which stands for Conference of Parties, is a series of formal meetings where governments assess global efforts to advance the Paris Agreement intended to combat climate change.
The event, to be held from November 11 to 22, will be attended by representatives from 197 countries, tackling a variety of issues related to the environment and global warming.
