A toast to teamwork after Christmas Day clean-up
Volunteers braved rainy conditions to help clean up trash from Elbow Beach on Boxing Day.
Keep Bermuda Beautiful organises the clean-up annually after droves turn out to the Paget beauty spot to celebrate Christmas Day.
This year’s effort saw 0.71 tonnes, or the equivalent of 888 champagne bottles, of trash collected throughout the day.
A highlight of the event was when the 30 or so volunteers created a human chain to help to transport the trash and bins from the beach up the steps to the car park where Wilmot Trucking was on hand to help take it away.
“What a way to toast to sustainability and community spirit,” said Angel Smith, KBB’s executive director.
“Rain or shine, our volunteers and partners continue to inspire us with their unwavering dedication to keeping Bermuda beautiful.
“The results of this clean-up highlight the power of teamwork and the collective will to protect our environment for future generations.
“A special thank you goes to Wilmot Trucking and their team for their incredible support in setting up bins early on Christmas morning and collecting and disposing of regular and recycling waste on Boxing Day. Their partnership and dedication are critical to the success of events like this and are deeply appreciated.
“Well done to all who participated. Your efforts are a shining example of the strength of our community and its shared commitment to sustainability.”
