Charity calls on residents to identify trash hotspots
An environmental charity is turning to the public for assistance to identify locations for trash clean-ups as part of a new engagement strategy.
For its first community clean-up of 2025, Keep Bermuda Beautiful called on the residents of St George’s to help locate polluted areas in the parish.
In the coming months, residents from other parishes will be encouraged to give feedback on their neighbourhoods.
Ideas must be submitted by Monday in time for the clean-up in St George’s which is to due take place on January 11.
Angel Smith, the executive director of KBB, said: “This initiative is a little different from what we've done in the past.
“For the first time, we're reaching out directly to parish residents to ask for their input on clean-up locations.
“This approach helps us get the community more involved and ensures that we're focusing on the areas that people feel need the most attention. Who better to identify these spots than those who live and work there?
“It’s important for us to engage the community, not just for their input but also for their participation.
“By working together, we can make a big difference in keeping Bermuda beautiful.
“Clean-ups like these foster a sense of pride and responsibility for our shared spaces.”
Ms Smith said she was particularly excited about the opportunity for young people to participate and earn community service hours.
“It’s a great way for them to give back and understand the impact of their efforts,” she added.
“This is just the beginning of KBB's monthly clean-up series and we plan to continue using community input to identify locations that need attention across the island.
“KBB is leading the way to a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Bermuda for all.”
Participants can e-mail office@kbb.bm by January 6 to suggest locations for the first clean-up.
