The vital role of the world’s glaciers is to be highlighted with a day of activities at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

The World Water Day theme for this year, “Save Our Glaciers”, is to be marked with a free open house on Saturday, with activities for all ages running from 11am to 3pm.

The BUEI will offer water-themed science experiments and sensory play stations as well as crafts and poetry activities at its Ocean Discovery Centre.

Climate change threatens glaciers, causing them to retreat and disrupting the planet’s water cycle as well as damaging ecosystems and contributing to sea level rise.

The global event is also aimed at raising awareness of the roughly 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water.
