Age is no barrier to GV Crystal Ball
GV Crystal Ball lowered the season track record while several ponies advanced from their respective time bars during weekend harness racing at the Bermuda Equestrian Centre.
With female driver Andrea Westerfield in the sulky, Edward Roque’s 13-year-old stallion posted a blistering 1:04/3 competing in the Aged Ponies division of the Best of Three Series to lower the bar.
It is the second time this season that GV Crystal Ball has posted the fastest time at the Vesey Street racetrack.
Going into the event, geldings, Brona’s Mike, and Cherokee’s Ironman, held a share of the season’s track record which previously stood at 1:05 flat.
Posting last weekend’s second and third fastest times were Brona’s Mike and Cherokee’s Ironman.
Brona’s Mike ran a 1:04/4 competing in the Aged Ponies division of the Best-of-Three Series, with Lucas Bridges at the helm, while Cherokee’s Ironman ran a 1:05/1 with driver Tyler Lopes in the sulky during regular racing.
Lopes and Cherokee’s Ironman, owned by former Driving Horse and Pony Club president Arnold Manders, are now unbeaten in their previous six heats.
Lopes was one of two drivers managing multiple heat victories during Sunday’s programme, the other being Aaron Maderios who achieved two victories with Leo Simmons’s stallion, Tee Time.
Among the ponies moving up a time bar were Shady’s Liberty, Reel Patrol, Custard the Dragon, IC’s Overextended, Double Time and Royal Caribbean.
The next harness race day is on Friday at 7pm.
