Spirit Of Bermuda storms to victory at Leicester
Spirit Of Bermuda stormed to a second career victory after winning the Fillies' Handicap race at Leicester Racecourse yesterday.
The Bermudian-owned thoroughbred, a 210,000 guineas purchase at Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up in June last year, was sent off at 7-2 and finished strongly to win the seven-furlong Flat race comfortably from 15-8 favourite Divine Magic.
It was a vast improvement from the three-year-old, ridden by Tom Marquand, after struggling to a ninth-place finish in another Class 4 seven-furlong race in a previous outing at Redcar, North Yorkshire, in April.
The filly’s first and only other victory came in a fine debut in the British European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in July, winning the seven-furlong race by a head from Iconic Queen.
Trained by William Haggas, Spirit Of Bermuda is part of the same Bermuda Thoroughbred Racing syndicate as Queen Of Bermuda, Pink Sands and Skymax.
