Flawless Michael Rodrigues on form in Jumping World Challenge
Michael Rodrigues produced a penalty-free performance to seal divisional victory in the second leg of Bermuda’s 2023 FEI Jumping World Challenge.
Competing in the Category C division (1 to 1.1-metres) at the National Equestrian Centre on Saturday, Rodrigues, who was riding Rambo, again secured top spot with zero penalties. In second place was McKeisha Smith and Da Vinci with a combined eight-point penalty score and a time of 59.29.
Sierra Woolfe, riding Forza, settled for third spot with a total of16 faults and a time of 1:01.06. In fourth place was Isabelle Pelletier, riding Kaid HZ, with 18 faults and a time of 1:00.21.
Leading the way in Category A (1.2 to 1.3m) was Jaylynn Hines and her talented gelding Toto D’ysenbeeck Z, who achieved double clears in both rounds.
In second place was Philip Correia, riding Junior Cardento, with a combined penalty score of four faults in a time of 56.46sec.
Category B (1.1 to 1.2m) featured the youngest Bermuda competitor, Tyler James and his horse Cruise Control. They captured first place with a combined four-point penalty score and time of 1:07. Vicki Steele and In The Stars also incurred a combined four-point penalty but with a time of 1:07.41.
Judging the competition was FEI Level 1 Bermudian judge Pamela Mahoney. Bermuda’s final round of the FEI Jumping World Challenge will take place at the National Equestrian Centre on Saturday April 8. FEI Level 3 Judge Cathy of Harper, of Canada, together with Mahoney will adjudicate.
