Bermuda equestrians compete in Caribbean Regional Jumping Challenge

Bermuda’s team eye up a fence

The Bermuda Equestrian Federation hosted the island’s round of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Regional Jumping Challenge at the National Equestrian Centre last week.

With a unique format, the competition provides an excellent opportunity for Bermuda equestrians of all ages to measure their jumping skills against their Caribbean counterparts without the need to travel overseas.

Participating riders compete in their own country over a predetermined jumping course across four height divisions ranging from 0.75 metres up to 1.05m with ten-centimetre increments. The top scores from three of the four height divisions determine each country’s team.

At the conclusion of the event, Bermuda’s team was comprised of Tyler James riding Sunny Days, in class A, Simone Sainsbury, riding Face Off, in class B and Abby Bardgett, riding Cruise Control, in class D.

Competing Caribbean countries have until the end of the year in which to host their events. As such, overall team and individual results will be announced early next year.

This year’s course was designed by Christa Heibach Aachen, of Germany. Officiating the Bermuda round of the Competition was FEI Judge Pamela Mahoney of Bermuda.

The Caribbean Equestrian Federation seeks to encourage equestrian sport within the Caribbean regions by the promotion of international and intra Caribbean events. Bermuda has been a member country of the CEA since 1999. Other member countries include Jamaica Barbados, Cayman Islands, Haiti as well as Trinidad and Tobago.
