Dressage riders pick up string of wins in Caribbean Challenge
Bermuda’s dressage community are celebrating a string of victories in the 2023 Caribbean Equestrian Association Dressage Challenge.
The island achieved success at both individual and team level after young riders and adults alike were assessed on home soil, with other competing countries do likewise.
In the regional challenge, Bermuda’s children’s team secured top placings against Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago, with Georgia Hughes winning the high score award for top rider in the region after scoring 71.4 percent aboard Casichacco. Alejandra Tafur posted a score of 69 percent on Edelweiss, while the combination of Scarlett Smale and Lollipop achieved 68 percent.
With a score of 73.75 percent in Level 1, Bermuda’s national dressage coach Angela Halloran led the way in the adult regional division, achieving the highest score in the region.
Halloran was ably supported by Nina Wehmeyer, who partnered Game Change to a mark of 70 percent, and Kirista Rabain, aboard Delta’s Roulette, scored 70.6 percent
After achieving a score of 74.028 percent in the Level 1 Adult Freestyle event, Vee McKey was awarded the 2023 Regional High Score award.
In the mini-dressage division, the children’s team secured top first place against Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and Cayman Islands.
The team comprised Charlotte Arthur riding Storm Watch, Logan Flood aboard Wild Things Island Adventure and Victoria Smatt partnering Paddington Bear.
In addition, several of Bermuda’s competitors were successful in in their respective individual mini-test divisions.
Arthur achieved 70 percent in the Introductory B test, Sophie Greenway achieved 70.76 percent in Children’s Training Level Test 1 with Peta White earning a score of 72.885 per cent in the Training Level 1 division.
In recognition of their stellar performances, Peta White achieved the highest adult score in the 2023 Mini Dressage Challenge, with Greenway claiming the top prize among junior competitors.
