While some of Bermuda’s equestrians competed in the Grand Caraibe in Surinam this weekend, there was still plenty of action closer to home.

On Saturday, the National Equestrian Centre was the venue for this year’s CEA Regional and Mini Dressage Challenges, in which riders compete against each other on their own horses without the logistical challenges and expense of travelling overseas.

FEI Level 2 Judge Omar Zarik, of Mexico, instead travels to each of the competing islands before results are announced when all countries have competed.

In the regional dressage challenge, Bermuda’s riders competed in tests ranging from USEF Training Level through to USEF 4th Level Test 1.

The adult high score of the day was achieved by Laura Williamson, with a score of 72.4 per cent aboard Black Tie Affair with the junior high score awarded to Lila Readdy with a score of 68.4 per cent on her horse Edelweiss.

In addition and riding to a compilation of James Bond music, Vee McKey and her majestic horse, Finest Hit, delighted spectators when scoring a solid 70.18 per cent in the Musical Freestyle class.

In the Mini Dressage Challenge, Bermuda’s young riders competed in tests ranging from USEF Introductory Level Test A through to USEF Training Level Test 1, with Grace Lightowler riding Mr Worldwide recording the top score of 72.04 per cent
