Bermuda riders compete in Caribbean jumping challenge
Bermuda’s show jumpers competed in the Bermuda round of the 2024 Caribbean Equestrian Association Regional Jumping Challenge on Saturday.
The competition allows participants to avoid the logistics of travelling, with riders assessed by a judge who visits each country. Pamela Mahoney undertook judging duties in Bermuda this year.
Competing countries include Jamaica, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Haiti, and Trinidad & Tobago, who will need to surpass the scores of Bermuda’s Samantha Cooper, Courtney Bromby, and Michael Rodrigues to secure victory.
Cooper, riding Kamei Ruf, topped the 0.85m division, finishing ahead of Abby Bardgett on Finnomenal AV and Ryan Wright on Up Up And Away. Nina Wehmeyer placed fourth, while Sophie Greenway came fifth.
Bromby, aboard Worth the Wait, triumphed in the 0.95m division with a flawless round, edging out Philip Correia on Poker Face.
In the 1.05m category, Rodrigues and his mount Rambo achieved first place, being the only pair to post a clear round among six riders. Alex McMartin placed second, followed by Correia in third. Sierra Wolfe, Kirista Rabain, and Kamali Tucker finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
Logan Flood emerged victorious in the 0.75m height aboard Wild Things Island Adventure, finishing ahead of Michaiah Bremar and Melody Greenslade.
