Bermuda equestrians star in World Jumping Challenge
Under ideal weather conditions, the first of three competitions comprising the 2025 FEI World Jumping Challenge was held at the National Equestrian Centre on Saturday.
The Challenge provides local riders with an opportunity to compete in an international setting without having to leave their country as riders from ten different geographical zones compete in their own countries over the same jumping course designed by Marina Azevedo of Brazil, Cristina Larangeiro of Portugal and Erica Sportiello of Brazil.
Among those in the winner’s circle in Bermuda was Jaylynn Hines, riding Toto D’ysenbeeck Z, who won top honours in the 1.20-1.30m category, beating Abby Bardgett on board Causing Chaos.
Bardgett went one place better on Cruise Control to pick up the top prize in the category B (1.10-120m) division. Michael Rodrigues, riding Acocetto HS, placed second.
First prize in Category C (1.00-1.10m) was earned by Sierra Wolfe and her mount Made You Look. Rodrigues was again second, this time on Rambo, with Georgia Hughes on board Casichacco placing third. Kamali Tucker finished fourth on Tugano Van Klapscheut.
Judging the event was Pamela Mahoney, from Bermuda. The second competition will be held on Saturday, February 15, with the final round scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 22.
All events will be held at the National Equestrian Centre and there is free entry to watch some of the island’s best equine athletes.
