Asian influence on Bermuda to be spotlighted in talk

The history of Asian immigration to Bermuda will be highlighted today.

A Visible Minority: Asian Diasporas in Bermuda, organised by the Department of Culture, will be held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, with the public invited to take part in a discussion on Asian identity on the island.

Panellists will include Anthony Ocampo, a scholar and writer on race, immigration and LGBTQ matters, Gracie Edwards, Liana Hall and Dany Pen.

A department spokeswoman said: “This event will highlight the diversity of Bermuda’s society as being one of our greatest strengths.

“Furthermore, the emigration of Asian peoples to Bermuda has enhanced our rich cultural mosaic.”

The event is scheduled to begin at 6pm.

Limited seats are available for people who want to attend in person and the discussion will also be broadcast online through Zoom.
