Events lined up to celebrate emancipation in Bermuda
The Department of Culture has released a calendar of events aimed at celebrating emancipation in Bermuda in the lead-up to Cup Match.
A spokeswoman said the department would host and sponsor a series of events this month and next with the theme of “Restoring Community: Healing Together”.
The spokeswoman added that this year’s feature event would be “Healthcare Heroines: Black Bermudian Nurses and the Struggle for Equality”, a film screening and discussion at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on July 21.
The event will be free, but those who wish to attend should sign up online because space will be limited.
Other emancipation activities scheduled for this month include lectures, historical bus tours, art exhibitions, Friendly Society discussions and tours to honour Emancipation Day, Mary Prince Day and the Cup Match holiday.
