Pumpkins, costumes and bouncy castles at Dockyard

Families celebrated the spooky season on Saturday afternoon at Dockyard’s Fall Festival event.

While rain forced the event from Dockyards lawn into The Shed, located near the entrance to Dockyard, parents and children still found their way to the event’s pumpkin patch, bouncy castles and vendor booths.

Children wore a variety of costumes, ranging from superheroes and princesses to dinosaurs.

Aziza Furbert said she was excited to be there at the pumpkin patch to help raise funds for the West End Primary.

“So far, the atmosphere has been really joyful,” she said.

“People are coming in. They are loving it. We have already made some pumpkin sales, even though I know some people want to wait until they are leaving so they don’t have to carry it around with them.

“The fact that the organisers were able to move it indoors given the rain has been great.”

She said that while the change in location might cause some challenges, the weather may help to draw more people to the event.

“I think people are looking for something they can do with their kids on a rainy day like this, so this is the perfect opportunity for people to come out and have fun.”

Ashley Stephens of Ashley’s Lemonade, said the event had proven to be an early success.

“Things are going great,” she said. “The kids are here running around having fun. I am excited to see so many people come out.

“It makes me wish I was younger so I could pick pumpkins and play in the bouncy castle. Everybody looks like they are having a great time.

“I think moving it to The Shed worked out perfectly. It was a great idea to bring it inside so people can come out and enjoy themselves, and they have a lot of activities going on.

“They are having a pie eating contest. There’s going to be trick or treating. It’s going to be an afternoon of fun.”

Amanda Michaels said that her children were having a great time at the event.

“We were a little worried that things might be cancelled given the weather, but it’s been great,” she said. “The kids are having a great time, and it’s a great way to really burn some energy on a rainy day.

“They are playing on the bouncy slide, getting their faces painted. It’s a good time.”
