Urgent call for Christmas boat parade participants
The City of Hamilton has put out a renewed call for boaters to sign up for the 2024 Christmas Boat Parade, set to go ahead on December 7.
A spokeswoman said that the deadline to register to the festive tradition has been pushed back to November 29.
Lorna Hayward, the City’s senior events co-ordinator, said: “Participation is vital for keeping this event alive.
“The boat parade is a highlight of the holiday season and we’re counting on our boating community to make this year unforgettable.
“With the incredible drone show and amazing prizes, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.
“We’re calling on all boat owners to come together, spread holiday joy, and ensure this spectacular event continues for years to come.”
The long-running boat parade brings together a series of festively decorated ships in Hamilton Harbour.
A spokeswoman for the City said that 16 boats had already registered for this year’s parade, scheduled to take place between 6.30pm and 9pm on December 7, but organisers hoped to see that number grow.
“Each year, the Boat Parade brings together the creativity and festive spirit of our community, and this year is no exception,” the spokeswoman said.
“Of course, the more boats that participate, the more magical the experience for everyone, and we continue to encourage boat owners and groups to join us in creating a spectacular display on Hamilton Harbour.
“This is a community-driven event and its ongoing success relies on the passion and participation of those who call Bermuda home.
“We’re looking forward to another wonderful evening of holiday cheer, complete with a dazzling drone show, festive food vendors and the vibrant atmosphere that has made the City Christmas Boat Parade a beloved tradition.”
Participants will be eligible for winning a range of prizes, including a $1,500 Belco voucher and a two-night stay at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club for the top ranked vessel.
Other prizes include a $1,000 PW Marine gift voucher and a $500 Rubis gift voucher.
This year’s boat parade will also feature Bermuda’s largest holiday drone show, and organisers promised “an awe-inspiring spectacle that will illuminate the night sky with synchronised lights and an audio experience”.
The spokeswoman added: “The show will tell a festive story through breathtaking drone formations, creating a total sensory experience.
“The best views of this must-see event will be from the free City Viewing Village and Kids Zone, where delicious food vendors and holiday cheer await.”
