In-person seniors’ Christmas party returns
More than 200 seniors will enjoy a Christmas brunch and gifts as part of a long-running giveaway event.
The annual seniors party has been hosted by Carol Clarke for 25 years and on this occasion her granddaughter, Naché Anderson-Clarke, 13, is taking the reins.
This year, the event will return in-person at St Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Centennial Hall in Pembroke on Saturday.
It has been organised as a drive-through since 2019 as a result of Covid-19.
Along with meals served to selected seniors, additional takeout meals will be given to others who wish to register.
Takeout plates are available by pre-order for those in need.
Ms Clarke said that after 25 years, it was “time for the younger ones to take over”.
“Naché has done a very good job with planning, I have been coaching her along. We are a team.
“She has involved the rest of the family members who are helping her in the kitchen and trying to get different items for the gift bags and raffle.
“There will be some dignitaries in attendance, including Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, and the hall will be decorated in fine style.”
Ms Clarke acknowledged family members who previously contributed and had passed away this year, including the late senator Leslie Robinson, her first cousin; Richard Warner, her third cousin; and Leon Place, a family friend.
Takeout plates for those who have pre-ordered are available from the St Paul AME Church Hall on Saturday from 8am to 10.20am.
Anyone interested can call 232-2385 to place a pre-order.
