Bermuda Pride marches forward on calendar
Bermuda Pride 2025 is coming sooner than expected, with the festivities to be held in the first week of July.
The event, which celebrates the island’s LGBTQ+ community, has historically been held in August, but organisers OutBermuda said the decision was made to bring it forward after hearing community feedback.
Joshua Samuels, the charity’s executive director, said: “After a series of community consultations, we’ve decided to move this year’s Pride celebrations to early July.
“As a charity dedicated to supporting and uplifting Bermuda’s queer community, it’s essential for us to be responsive to the needs and voices of those we serve.”
The organisation said that the moving of the event would help to avoid clashes with other events on the summer calendar such as the Eastern Counties cricket competition and Labour Day weekend.
Najib Chentouf, the Pride project manager, said: “This change reflects our commitment to creating a space that is welcoming, accessible and uniquely Bermudian.
“It also allows us to collaborate more effectively with local service providers and resources, ensuring an enjoyable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.”
An OutBermuda spokeswoman said that Bermuda Pride had become the home of a growing number of events including panel discussions, open mike nights and the Pride Parade through the City of Hamilton.
“Beyond the celebrations, Pride serves as a protest, a movement and a call to action — a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the power of community,” she added.
Pride Week events also serve as fundraising opportunities to support OutBermuda programmes such as bursaries, counselling services and Outlet, a support group for young people and allies.
More details about this year’s calendar of events are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
