What does your style say about you?
What does your style say about you?
That’s a question we posed to people we spotted out on the city streets yesterday afternoon.
Groom-to-be Richard Martin, 26, told us he wanted to dress in a way that would make his fiance, Kylah Allers, proud.
“So I am getting married on Sunday, so the mood I wanted to express was wearing something that would make my fiance proud,” the pastor from Tampa, Florida said.
“I didn’t want to walk around embarrassing her by how I look. Plus my family and friends are in town for the wedding and I knew they would be dressed to the nines so I had to step up my game a little bit.”
Mr Martin follows several fashion pages on Instagram including GQ, High Men’s Fashion and Gap.
But when it comes to his everyday style mantra, he tries to keep things simple and elegant.
“I don’t like to be uncomfortable when I work, but I like to be presentable at all times,” he explained.
“I could get a call at any time to meet with people in the community so I have to be ready at a moment’s notice.
“It’s one thing to have on sweats, a T-shirt and ball cap, and there are times when those are appropriate, but just on a regular basis I try to pick clothes that can transition into any climate.”
Businesswoman Fiona Luck said she was having a pretty hectic week and wanted her style to feel a bit more relaxed.
“Today I was trying to be relaxed because I’m not very relaxed at the moment,” the 57-year-old said.
“I’m having lots of renovations done at my house, which can be very stressful.
“I also wanted my outfit to be a little more upbeat and positive to lift my mood a bit. I think dressing up has a tendency to do that, to make you feel better.”
Her aim when it comes to dressing is to look chic, but casual enough so that the outfit is workable.
“I like to wear suits to board meetings, but also like wearing nice comfortable clothes on the weekends and evenings,” she explained.
“I don’t do a lot of celebrity watching [to get style inspiration]. I read magazines and my sons’ girlfriends are very trendy so I look at what they’re wearing.”
She said she’s always enjoyed clothes and fashion and likes how she can show off her creativity when putting an outfit together.
Anisa Velcescu, 25, said she chose to wear dark colours because they suited her personality.
“I am a Scorpio,” the waitress said. “So I find dark colours come off strong and make an impact.”
Typically Ms Velcescu tries to dress quite smart. “I will wear things that are elegant like a suit and heels or a blouse with a scarf,” she said.
“But I don’t get inspired by much really. I try to find my own style and pick what I think would look nice on me.”
