Restaurant’s round it up initiative to help SPCA
It is a dog’s dinner with a difference as a Hamilton bistro and bar has introduced an initiative for customers to round up their bill to support SPCA Bermuda.
Taste 141 on Front Street wants to aid animals in shelters by letting patrons push their payment up to the next dollar throughout December to give some Christmas cash to the charity.
Customers feeling more generous can raise the donation to a figure of their choosing or choose to boost a specific need like sponsoring a dog or contributing funds to cat neutering.
Louisa Knight of SPCA Bermuda said: “This fundraising initiative will enable us to continue with our ongoing work to care for Bermuda’s neglected, unwanted and abused animals.
“The shelter's intake numbers have continued to rise and without the generous support of the public, we simply cannot continue to provide our vital services.”
An SPCA pitbull called SweetPea, who lost a leg in a road accident, “captured the attention” of everyone in the restaurant on a recent visit to highlight the initiative, staff said.
Kia Wolffe, Taste 141’s general manager, added: “As a dog-friendly establishment, it only seemed natural to set up an initiative for SPCA Bermuda when we saw their community outreach earlier in the year.
“We love it when our customers bring their dogs with them to sit outside on the patio, which has increased in popularity over the last year. Knowing that we have animal-loving customers makes us feel confident that this will be a successful drive.
“There are lots of dogs, cats and rabbits like SweetPea at the SPCA right now who deserve a happy home, but the charity requires donations to keep them healthy and safe until then.
“We are hopeful that bringing some of the animals to the restaurant throughout the month will help raise awareness and assist in finding them homes sooner.”
