Nahki Wells on target for Bristol City in preseason friendly
Nahki Wells was on the scoresheet in Bristol City’s 3-0 win against League Two outfit Cheltenham Town in a preseason friendly on Friday.
The Bermudian forward converted a first-half penalty and produced a solid performance in a game his team dominated throughout.
“Ninety minutes tonight; a goal and a couple of assists, so a good night's work,” Wells said. “We played on Tuesday as well, and I scored, so I have played a positive role in the last two fixtures and happy with how it's been going.
"It's nice to get back out in front of a crowd and play in a stadium and so many positives to take."
City, who finished eleventh in the Sky Bet championship last season, came charging out of the blocks and took only 40 seconds to break the deadlock at Whaddon Road with a cracking finish from Sinclair Armstrong, who linked up nicely with fellow forward Wells.
Former Bermuda captain Wells then doubled City’s advantage from the penalty spot in the fourth minute from after being fouled by Cheltenham goalkeeper Owen Evans.
City went close to grabbing a third in the 22nd minute when defender Rob Dickie rose highest from a corner but his header struck the underside of the crossbar, with his side settling for a 2-0 advantage at half time.
Mark Sykes finally broke Cheltenham’s resistance again in the 85th minute to put the seal on City’s third win in four days after they beat Newport County and Aldershot Town with two separate squads on Tuesday.
