Jeon Wolfe has made the most of a dream of representing Bermuda on the international stage at the Caribbean Football Union Boys Under-14 Challenge Series in Trinidad & Tobago.

The 14-year-old striker has been in prolific form with seven goals in four outings at the tournament, including a hat trick in a 10-1 drubbing of Sint Maarten.

Yet rather than accept all the praise, the Berkeley Institute student credits his form to the support he receives from his team-mates.

“I feel like what’s helping me with this form is my team-mates, they are always looking and giving me service, which helps me get the goals,” Wolfe told The Royal Gazette.

“Also winning league MVP means when I go out there the fans and my team-mates are counting on me.”

Wolfe’s performances have also earned him man-of-the-match accolades on three straight occasions going into yesterday’s 1-0 win over St Lucia.

“Winning man of the match three out of three is a wonderful and overwhelming feeling,” he added. “It feels like you are on top of the world.”

The teenager set high expectations for himself heading into the competition, which he remains on course of achieving.

“I told the coaches that I wanted to be the top goalscorer of the tournament and, with seven goals so far, that’s still the goal for me,” he said.

Fulfilling his long-held ambition of lacing up the boots for his country is something Wolfe really cherishes.

“It’s an honour playing for my country,” he said. “I have always dreamt of this since a child and it’s just overwhelming.”

Bermuda topped Tier II Group C having won all four matches against Grenada, Bonaire, Sint Maarten and St Lucia.

“The team’s performance so far has been unbelievable the way we move the ball,” Wolfe said. “Our link-up play is amazing and our chemistry is unmatched.

“What has brought our team’s success is our pre-match talks from our coaches. They always know how to motivate us and get us going, and when we play out on the field we are the best team.”

Wolfe also has placed high expectations on the team, which he is adamant they can achieve.

“My expectations going forward is to win this thing,” he boldly declared. “We have showed the potential that we can, so we need to show everyone that we can.”
