Football transfers complete as 95 players switch clubs
Ahead of the start of the football season next Sunday when PHC and St George’s meet in the Charity Cup at Devonshire Rec, 95 players have switched clubs.
D’Andre Wainwright is one of the biggest moves during the transfer window, with the big striker switching from title challengers North Village to champions PHC.
Wainwright, who joined Kenny Thompson’s team from Somerset Trojans last year, is one of five players to move to the defending league champions, with Tariq Bean also swapping the red for the black and white.
Jonté Smith’s return to Village has been confirmed, as he makes the change from Premier Division rivals St George’s Colts. Smith scored a hat-trick in April to guide St George’s to their maiden FA Cup title, with a 4-0 drubbing handed out to his new side at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
St George’s have also lost Manoj Paynter who has gone to Devonshire Cougars. Paul Simons, who joined the East Enders from PHC, where his season was disturbed by a series of injuries, has made another switch, this time to X-Roads.
Newly promoted Wolves have added five players, notably Samario Valasse-Paul, who was one of Sergio Goater’s key players at Hamilton Parish.
Kamau Leverock, better known for his cricket ability, has left Village for Paget, where he will link up with Delray Rawlins, his former team-mate in the Bermuda cricket team. Another national-team cricketer Tre Manders has moved from Dandy Town to Village.
David Jones Jr, one of the main reasons for Young Men’s Social Club avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season, has left Michael Smith’s side for Town.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda Football Association have announced key dates for the upcoming season.
PHC and St George’s will get the ball rolling in the traditional Charity Cup under floodlights this Sunday. This will be followed by the start of the Dudley Eve group matches the following day. League matches are slated to start between September 26 and September 29.
