Nathan Trott helps Copenhagen qualify for Europa Conference League
Nathan Trott helped FC Copenhagen to clinch a spot in the Europa Conference League after his side secured a 3-1 aggregate win away to Kilmarnock today.
The Danish side advanced to the 36-team league stage of European football’s third-tier competition after coming from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their play-off at Rugby Park. They had won the first leg 2-0 at home a week earlier.
Winger Marley Watkins put Kilmarnock ahead in the 16th minute this afternoon to shave the home team’s overall deficit to one goal before team-mate Lewis Mayo scored an own goal in the 67th minute to restore Copenhagen’s two-goal cushion.
Trott and his fellow team-mates are now in great company, with 2021 Champions League winners Chelsea among possible opposition in the competition this season.
The 25-year-old kept a clean sheet on his European debut in Copenhagen’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Czech Republic outfit Banik Ostrava in the first leg of their Europa Conference League third qualifying round contest.
He was then the hero for Copenhagen with a save in the shoot-out in a 2-1 win on penalties over their Czech Republic rivals to advance in the competition and set up a clash with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.
