Nathan Trott to play against Real Betis in Conference League
Goalkeeper Nathan Trott will face La Liga side Real Betis in the Conference League.
Trott’s FC Copenhagen team will play the Spanish side and Turkish team Basaksehir, Austria’s SK Rapid, Heart of Midlothian, Poland’s Jagiellona and Belarusian Premier League side Dinamo Minsk.
All 36 teams remaining in the competition will play six league games each, three at home and three away, with the top-eight teams qualifying directly for the round of 16.
The sides finishing ninth to 24th will then go into a play-off while the bottom 12 teams will be eliminated.
The draw was held less than 24 hours after Trott produced a string of fine saves as Copenhagen clinched a spot in European football’s third-tier competition courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate win over Kilmarnock on Thursday.
The Danish side advanced to the league stage after coming from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their play-off at Rugby Park. They had won the first leg 2-0 at home a week earlier.
Trott, 25, kept a clean sheet on his European debut in Copenhagen’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Banik Ostrava in the first leg of their Conference League third qualifying round contest.
He was then the hero for Copenhagen with a save in the shoot-out in a 2-1 win on penalties over their Czech Republic rivals to advance in the competition and set up the clash with Kilmarnock.
