Dennis Brown is looking forward to embarking on the next chapter of his football journey as director of coaching and skills development at Warwick Football Academy.

The former Somerset Trojans and Bermuda captain and highly decorated coach was recently appointed to the post and has been tasked with the management and development of the organisation’s coaches to help them fulfil their potential.

“I am looking forward to imparting my knowledge as a coach on the other coaches. My responsibility will be to oversee all of the coaches in the program as well as dealing with skills development. So I’m excited for this next chapter of my football journey,” Brown told The Royal Gazette.

“With over 40 years of coaching, I believe I have a lot to give back to the local young coaches. That is my responsibility to ensure that the coaches go to another level and also the program so looking forward to it.”

Brown will now oversee staff recruitment, tactical and technical development, staff assignments, management, evaluations and team formation approvals and assist in shaping and implementing the academy’s club culture, coaching methodology and philosophy, including tactical, technical, physical and psychosocial benchmarks at each age level.

Additionally, he has also been tasked with the development and implementation of the club’s Performance Academy Skills Development Programs, which aim to increase the technical efficiency of players to enhance their individual ball mastery, confidence and creativity in possession of the ball.

“I am just there to enhance what’s already there,” Brown added. “They have an abundance of coaches, which is great.

“We have some brilliant, young coaches so in my opinion what has to happen to get a good foundation and a good program you have to have also good coaches who impart their knowledge on the players.”

The Bermuda Football Coaches Association and Bermuda Sports International president is by no means a stranger to the thriving youth program having been a co-founder of forerunner Warwick Archers who later merged with Warwick Football Academy, before returning to his roots at Somerset Cricket Club to serve as the club’s technical director.

“It’s a pleasure to actually be back in the program,” said Brown, who also serves on Bermuda Football Association’s Player Development Committee.

“As you know I was the co- founder of the Warwick Archers program along with David Horan, the principal at Warwick Academy, and Joel Duffy. We actually started the Warwick Archers program.

“It’s a pleasure to be back in the program tasked as the director of coaching as well as director of skills development for the program.

“The program has really grown since I left to go back Somerset. Richard (Warwick Football Academy technical director Richard Todd) has done a really good job bringing the program to where it is today. He just added on and enhanced the program.”

Meanwhile, the Warwick Football Academy are equally as delighted to have regained Brown’s wealth of expertise and services.

“We are pleased to have Dennis back in the fold with the Warwick Football program. He was very instrumental in establishing and leading the previous Warwick Archers program for under-13 plus teams prior to the merger of the Archers and Warwick Academy Football clubs in 2023,” the organisation said in a press release.

“The appointment of Dennis brings an individual with a wealth of experience and knowledge back into the fold at Warwick Football Academy.”
