Domico Coddington sent off as Colts impress in Devonshire derby

Devonshire Cougars striker Domico Coddington had an eventful night at Devonshire Rec, which saw him having a penalty saved, providing an assist before he was sent off, as Devonshire Colts picked up their second consecutive win in the Premier Division.
Coddington had a great opportunity to put Cougars ahead in the derby when referee Kentoine Jennings pointed to the spot in the 24th minute. The 40-year-old saw his powerful shot punched back into play by Jaden Mills-Furbert, the Colts goalkeeper.
Deep into the second half, Coddington was sent for an early shower. He was shown his first yellow card in the 78th minute and after a confrontation with an opponent by the corner flag a minute later, Jennings took out a second yellow and followed that up with the red.
Isaiah Greaves, one of the Colts substitutes, was also red carded for his role in the scuffle that ensued.
Coddington had earlier on gotten over his penalty being saved by threading a brilliant pass for Machi Battersbee to open the scoring for Cougars in the 29th minute.
That was the only goal scored by Cougars, as Colts went on to score three without reply. Brandon O'Connor and Jaquiri Paynter scored a minute apart to give their team the lead going into the break, with captain Teniko Eve putting the icing on the cake with a brilliant strike from outside the box in the 75th minute.
Ray Jones, the Devonshire Colts coach, was content with the win, while at the same time looking for improvements from his players. Colts have now scored seven goals and only conceded twice in their opening two matches of the season.
“I’m obviously pleased with the result but I thought the performance could be better,’’ Jones said.
“We might have been a bit leggy since we've played two games in five days. It’s the beginning of the season when everybody is trying to get up to match fitness.
“I think in moments, we showed what we’re capable of, but I never thought we upped the tempo of the previous game.
“At the end of the day, when you’re just coming up, you try to collect points early. We’re a young team, it’s their first Devonshire derby.
“I’m proud of them, they came out on the right side of the result. We just keep building from here, one game at a time.”
