Dominican Republic have not taken any chances in their quest to qualify for the Gold Cup as they were the first team to arrive in Bermuda ahead of their Nations League matches against Antigua & Barbuda.

Marcelo Neveleff’s side, who top group F with six points, landed on the island on Sunday to avoid any potential travel issues surrounding Hurricane Milton, which was due to impact Florida on Wednesday evening. They play Antigua in back-to-back fixtures on Saturday and Tuesday at the Flora Duffy Stadium.

However, the Dominica team, who are scheduled to play two matches against Bermuda, and Antigua are yet to arrive on island with the American Airlines flight from Miami cancelled on Wednesday. Normal service is expected to resume on Thursday.

Despite the potential arrival of the remnants of Hurricane Milton in the manner of a tropical storm on Saturday, the Bermuda Football Association has maintained that matches remain according to schedule.

Bermuda’s match with Dominica is scheduled to kick off at 7.30pm on Saturday night with the game likely to be played in inclement conditions if the weather forecast is to be believed.

“As it stands, it’s business as usual,’’ a BFA spokeswoman said. “Once we receive further information, it will be disseminated accordingly.”

The Bermuda Weather Service has warned of strong winds and rain when the hurricane passes to the south of the island over the weekend.

“Hurricane Milton will downgrade to a post-tropical low shortly after entering the Atlantic and is expected to generate strong and gusty local winds as it passes to the island’s south this weekend,’’ the BWS said.
