North Village youngsters win Leonard DeRosa-Holder final
The future of Bermuda football looks bright if the passion and determination on display in the final of the Leonard DeRosa-Holder Trophy is anything to go by.
In the curtain raiser to the Dudley Eve Trophy at Wellington Oval on Sunday afternoon, North Village beat PHC 4-1 with two goals in each half in a highly entertaining match
Amir Brangman-Johnson, playing with a maturity beyond his age, opened the scoring in the eleventh minute when his wind-assisted corner curled directly into the net to give Village the lead.
They doubled their advantage just four minutes later after good build-up from the back, with the ball eventually being cut back for Jason Dixon-DaSilva to slot into the open right corner of the net.
PHC then pulled a goal back when a precise pass by Khiry White put Kris Iris through on goal and he beat the onrushing goalkeeper, blast the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-1 at half time.
Village scored their third in the 64th minute when captain Malik Paynter capitalised on a mix-up between the PHC goalkeeper and one of his defenders to toe-poke the ball into an empty net.
Paynter, who was named MVP for Village, closed out the scoring with his second, and the team’s fourth, when pouncing on the second attempt after his initial shot was blocked.
Xion Smith was named MVP for PHC
