Saltus win under-16 boys six-a-side football
Saltus Grammar School defeated The Berkeley Institute Green team 2-1 to win the Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School under-16 boys six-a-side tournament at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence on Thursday.
Saejhor Dent opened the scoring in the final with a low drive from the top of the box before Curtis Jackson Jr scored the second with a glancing header which beat the Berkeley keeper. Berkeley pulled one back through Jeon Wolfe, but Saltus fought off the challenge from their opponents to win the final.
On their way to victory, Saltus started with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Warwick Academy in the first round of the play-offs. Zydon Lightbourne Furbert scored twice to give Warwick a 2-0 lead. Jackson led the comeback with two goals and Malik Paynter weighed in with the winner.
Mount Saint Agnes Academy defeated Berkeley Gold in the other play-off match with goals from Elliot Proctor and Steven Osborne. Norico Furbert scored a consolation goal for Berkeley.
To book a spot in the final, Berkeley Green defeated MSA in the semi-final in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw. Noah Gift gave the Saints the lead before Deacon Wade equalised late in the game. Berkeley finally won after 15 rounds of kicks from the penalty spot.
Goals from Dent and Paynter were the driving force for Saltus to overcome CedarBridge Academy 2-0 in the other semi-final.
Meanwhile, FC Bascome Blue and Warwick Football Academy clash in the Gregory Grimes Under-13 final at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence starting at 7pm on Friday.
