PHC bolstered by return of captain Daren Usher
PHC Zebras captain Daren Usher is looking forward to rejoining his team-mates as they seek to get their Premier Division title defence back on track against St George’s Colts at PHC Field tonight (8pm).
The experienced defender has recovered from a groin injury he picked up in PHC’s 2-0 win against Devonshire Cougars last month and is expected to reclaim his place in coach Quincy Hunt’s starting line up for the clash with FA Cup champions St George’s.
“I feel good coming back, I have been training and doing my extras so I can be prepared and ready for this game,” Usher told The Royal Gazette.
“St George’s has always been a team we look forward to playing. It’s almost like they bring the best out of us, so I am ready to get going.”
PHC hold a psychological edge heading into the contest after thrashing St George’s 6-0 in the season-opening Charity Cup in the previous meeting between the teams in September.
“They have a pretty strong team,” Usher said. “We know everybody is getting late transfers in so we have no real idea what they are going to present to us on Friday night, but we are prepared either way.”
PHC are attempting to get back to winning ways after suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Devonshire Colts in their previous league outing before the international break.
“Obviously nobody really wants to lose so we have to bounce back as quick as possible,” Usher said.
“We had the three-week break for internationals so unfortunately we couldn’t go again the very next week, but we are ready for it.
“We want to get back to winning ways to keep our title charge going, so everybody is mentally prepared to get going again.
“Unfortunately we had to go down but the best way to recover from it is to win your next game.”
St George’s are also attempting to get back to winning ways after losing 2-1 against Wolves at Wellington Oval in their last outing before the international break.
