Excitement for Village’s return to Bernard Park
North Village interim head coach Calvin Dill Jr is thrilled by the imminent return to playing home matches at Bernard Park.
While question marks were lingering over the availability of Village’s home ground, which has not been used this season, Sunday’s Premier Division against St George’s will mark the first time Dill’s side is playing on familiar turf.
“We are very excited to be playing at home this season,” Dill told The Royal Gazette.
“Nothing beats the joy of playing at home and we are looking forward to playing in front of our fans. We always try to make the game enjoyable for the players and the fans, whether we are at home or away.”
The Pembroke facility, which is set to be renamed after a Village legend, was closed last year for state-of-the-art lights installation. While the poles have gone up, the pitch will not be used for night games for now, as there is still work to be done by Belco.
“The current delay with regard to the lights being turned on at Bernard Park is due to Belco works which are yet to be completed,’’ a Bermuda Football Association spokeswoman said.
“There is no timeline to those works, which means the venue will continue being used for day matches only until the work is done.”
Lack of lights at Bernard Park means that while Village can play matches at home, they will continue training elsewhere up to the time the lights are switched on.
Village, with six wins and one draw, are second on the standings with 19 points, a point behind Dandy Town, with the two teams having nine matches remaining. The Rams are chasing their first league title since 2020.
