Keishen Bean hat-trick in vain for St David’s
Keishen Bean scored a hat-trick, but it was not enough to prevent St David’s from falling to a 5-3 defeat against First Division rivals Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval on Sunday.
The veteran striker netted in the 12th, 20th, and sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, but Rangers’ attacking duo Kevin Douglas and Nacori Smith, who both scored twice, along with Antonio Bailey, ensured victory for the home side.
Douglas opened the scoring in the 8th minute, but Bean struck twice to give St David’s a 2-1 lead at half-time. Smith restored parity in the 54th minute and added another four minutes later to put Rangers ahead.
Douglas extended the lead in the 68th minute, and Bailey made it 5-2 in stoppage time before Bean completed his hat-trick with a late consolation.
Rangers sit seventh in the standings, level on points with sixth-placed Somerset Trojans and one behind fifth-placed St David’s.
Elsewhere, Somerset Eagles edged Vasco 3-2 in a tight contest at Goose Gosling Field.
Nathan Rego led the charge for Eagles with a brace, while Marco Basden scored the other. Kevin Arruda and Rychus Symonds were on target for Vasco.
Rego opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but Symonds levelled ten minutes later. Basden restored Eagles’ lead just before half-time, and Rego’s second in the 53rd minute provided some breathing space.
Arruda pulled one back in the 89th minute, but Eagles held on to secure the points.
Eagles remain fourth in the standings, six points behind second-placed Boulevard, who occupy the final promotion spot. Leaders X-Roads hold a two-point advantage over Boulevard at the top.
