Jutorre Burgess grabs sensational winner for Harborough Town
Jutorre Burgess added to his growing reputation at Harborough Town after grabbing his team’s winner in a hard fought 1-0 victory over Southern League Premier Division Central rivals AFC Sudbury on Tuesday night.
With the game hanging in the balance, Burgess finally broke Sudbury’s resistance in the 65th minute when he cut in from the right and unleashed a shot from the corner of the box into the roof of the net.
The goal was the former Hamilton Parish and Brooke House College Football Academy player’s third of the season and his second in three games, with his strike helping his team to extend their impressive winning streak to five games.
Burgess, who was promoted by Harborough from the club’s Emerging Talent Programme in September, has been in sparkling form lately and has featured in manager Mitch Austin’s starting XI in four of the club’s last six matches.
The hard fought victory on Tuesday has bolstered Harborough’s promotion hopes as they are now sixth in the standings, one point adrift of fourth, the final play-off position and Austin was delighted to see his team continue their winning ways.
“I am happy but everybody goes out there to be competitive for three points, and we’ve done it five times in a row, so it’s a good feeling and could be the start of something better,” he said.
“I thought we were the better side going forward and it was just a case of being better in front of goal, and luckily the young one [Burgess] popped up and scored the goal got us on our way.”
However, Austin was far from pleased with his team’s effort in the first half in which neither team scored.
“I thought we were out of sync a little bit,” he said.
“We were jnot doing the good stuff we have been doing well, and I had a go at every single one of them and you need that as there was nothing to praise.”
