Daniel Ball helps Devonshire Colts to stun Dandy Town

Central midfielder Daniel Ball’s stunning strike deep into stoppage time earned Devonshire Colts an impressive victory over Dandy Town at Goose Gosling Field on Wednesday night.

Ball, who also equalised in the 50th minute to cancel out Tomiko Goater’s 26th minute penalty, caught Toran Place off his line with a dipping shot to prevent Town going top of the Premier Division. for Colts to go level with champions PHC on 24 points.

Town remain on 26 points, two behind North Village, while champions PHC and Colts are both on 24 points with all teams now having played 14 games.

In a first half in which both teams failed to sparkle, Town were awarded a penalty when Goater was impeded by Jaden Mills-Furbert, the Colts goalkeeper. The home team’s captain sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Colts came back a changed side in the second half. Ray Jones’s side found the equaliser five minutes after the break after Chemarl Henry sliced through the Town defence and had his shot blocked only for the rebound to fall kindly for Ball to chip it over the defenders and into the net.

Mills-Furbert produced a great save in the 58th minute to keep out a Goater effort and the Colts goalkeeper was again called into action three minutes before the end to stop the Town captain’s header after David Jones Jr did well to keep the ball and release Angelo Simmons, whose effort was blocked by the Colts defence.

With time added on after Danté Leverock was injured, the Bermuda defender walking off the field with a heavily strapped left leg to be replaced by Ereico Outerbridge in the 68th minute, the referee added six minutes of stoppage time.

Just when the contest appeared headed for a stalemate, Ball received a pass from Jahkeylo Burgess, took aim from distance and beat Place for his fifth goal of the season.
