Goalkeeper Nathan Trott no longer first choice at Copenhagen
Bermudian goalkeeper Nathan Trott has reportedly been told he is no longer first choice at FC Copenhagen.
Trott, 25, left West Ham United last summer for a fee of about $1.5 million to join the Danish Superliga side and was immediately installed as the No 1 goalkeeper, making 14 first-team starts.
Those appearances have come in a number of competitions, with Trott in goal for matches against Real Betis and Heart of Midlothian in the Europa Conference League.
However, he has been criticised for his inconsistency in the Danish media, despite Copenhagen sitting top of the league, and his position came under threat after the signing of Diant Ramaj on loan from Borussia Dortmund.
Ramaj, 23, joined the club on February 3 and has since played all three games, including both legs of the Conference League tie against Heidenheim, which Copenhagen won 4-3 on aggregate.
Head coach Jacob Neestrup has made no secret that Ramaj will be his first choice for the remainder of the season, telling a number of media outlets the reason for his decision.
“We have brought in a strong personality and a man who is used to being in the environment of a top club,” Neestrup said.
“He has a high level of game intelligence, is good one-on-one defensively and in playing with his feet.
“I have been completely open and honest from day one about the fact that we were in the market for another keeper, although Nathan is a professional, has trained well and had a good start.
“We have an expectation that he can continue with that, but he and the others have to work and improve. That's how it is in all positions.”
