Bermuda under-17 women drawn against Mexico, Haiti and Costa Rica

Bermuda Women’s Under-17 team

Bermuda under-17 women’s team have learnt who their opponents will be in the final round of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers.

The young team were drawn in group A alongside Mexico, Haiti and Costa Rica on Monday as they attempt to become the first football team of any age group to qualify for a football World Cup.

But their task will not be easy as Bermuda have arguably been drawn in the toughest of the groups with Mexico and Haiti two of the four teams pre-seeded by Concacaf.

The matches will be played in Mexico between March 31 and April 6, with the winner guaranteed a spot at the under-17 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Morocco in October and November.

There could potentially be two qualifying spots available from the group with the best runner-up from all three stages also going through. At the draw yesterday, Canada, Puerto Rico, Panama and Nicaragua were drawn in group B with USA, El Salvador, Honduras and Trinidad fighting it out in group C.

Bermuda made it through to this stage of the competition after finishing as the best runner-up in the first stage of qualifying, with victories over Cayman Islands and St Vincent & The Grenadines followed by a narrow defeat to host nation Puerto Rico,
