Bascome FC celebrate success at Lake Nona Tournament
Bascome FC’s young players are celebrating a string of victories at the Lake Nona Tournament in the US last weekend.
The two-day competition attracts teams in age groups from under-8 to under-19 in three different divisions within each year group, and Bascome FC sent 42 players in four age groups from under-9 to under-12, with all teams playing in the silver division and reaching their respective finals.
The under-12 team won all three of their group games, scoring ten goals and conceding just one before beating Orlando City Soccer School Purple 2-1 in the final.
There was also success for the under-11s, who also went undefeated through the tournament, eventually beating Orlando City White 3-1 in the final.
Bascome’s under-10 team finished second in their group after two wins and a 4-1 defeat to Wizards Soccer Academy, but they reversed that result in style in the final, defeating Wizards 3-2 to lift the trophy.
The under-9 team won their group but had to settle for the runner-up spot after narrowly losing the final.
Andrew Bascome, who led the delegation as well as coaching the under-10 team, was delighted with the performance and attitude of his young players.
“Our players came well prepared with a lot of technical and ball mastery training,” Bascome said.
“Our focus inside the programme is to provide our players with all the basic technical skills and knowledge required to take the game to the next level. We are not focused on gameday results per se, but we are very focused on each player's skills and ability to implement those skills on game day.
“I’m very proud of what they brought to the pitch in this tournament, not just their technical capabilities, but their desire, their fighting spirit and their complete respect for the game and its principals.
“Of course I’m impressed by the results and the individual performances, but it takes team effort, discipline and character to walk away with the best goal difference of all teams in their respective divisions.
“As for the organisation and the venue it was top class. For next year we will enter our stronger teams in the top division as I believe we can go toe to toe with the MLS Academies and the UK clubs who were there. It will be a good challenge for the club, my coaching staff and all the players for the 2025-26 season.”
