Boulevard earn promotion to Premier Division
Boulevard Blazers clinched the remaining First Division promotion spot with a game to spare after edging St David’s Warriors 1-0 in a tight affair at Goose Gosling Field on Saturday night.
Captain Ernest Reiko Trott popped up with the winner in the 22nd minute to secure the Shield champion’s return to the top flight after a two-year absence.
“It definitely feels great to finally be back in the Premier Division again,” club president and goalkeeper Daz Chambers told The Royal Gazette.
“Unfortunately we were down in the First Division these last two years but obviously we’re back to winning ways.
“We were able to get a trophy [Shield] and push for promotion this season, so we set our goals and accomplished them with a game to spare, which feels good for the club and the community.”
Very little separated Boulevard and their opponents during the match on Saturday, with Trott’s goal settling matters.
“St David’s definitely showed up to give us a good challenge and not hand promotion to us, so we had to work hard for it and were short a few of our players,” Chambers said. “It’s always a good game when we play St David’s, and they definitely came to play.”
Despite dropping precious points in the second half of the season, Chambers said the side always backed themselves to clinch the final promotion spot.
“We definitely were not concerned and were always confident in promotion, especially with how our first half of the season went, so it was all about finishing,” Chambers added.
“We’ve only lost once this half of the season and had two draws that slowed up our push for promotion, but we got over the line.”
Chambers takes even greater pride in playing his part in his club’s success both as an administrator and between the posts on the pitch.
“It definitely feels good being the player and the president and seeing things come together while also playing a vital role,” he said.
“My goal is to play every single game this season and I am on track for 100 per cent attendance. I put a lot into it and do it for my team, my club and my community, which means a lot.”
First Division champions X-Roads Warriors were the biggest winners at the weekend after thumping Vasco 12-0 at Wellington Oval on Sunday.
Paul Simons and Kahmori Brangman led the charge with hat-tricks and Donovan Thompson added a brace while Aaron Spencer, Noldre Brown and George Sanchez also got on the scoresheet. Khari Place scored an own goal for VAaco.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Southampton Rangers beat ten-men Somerset Eagles at Southampton Oval.
Player-coach Keith Jennings, Nicori Smith, Kevin Douglas, Khaill Symonds and Kidane Callender were all on target for the home team, while Quayan Watson and Jacob Estis replied for Eagles, who were reduced to ten men when Michael Tyler-Emery received his marching orders in the 50th minute.
