Inquiry launched into conduct of officials after postponed match
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the postponement of the Premier Division game between Hamilton Parish and Wolves last weekend.
The game was cancelled after an assistant referee, who was scheduled to officiate in the match, walked out of the preceding First Division game at half-time after an alleged argument between officials in the changing room.
The Royal Gazette contacted the Bermuda Football Association with questions about the incident and was informed that the Bermuda Referees Association has launched an inquiry.
“The Bermuda Referees Association has begun internal investigation regarding the incident,” a statement by the BFA read.
The president of the BRA, Anthony Francis, was the referee who called off the match between Parish at Wolves at Wellington Oval on Sunday after both teams had arrived at the ground.
Francis decided not to go ahead after consulting with Parish coach Sergio Goater and his Wolves counterpart Vince Minors Jr, who were both unhappy with the postponement.
“This impacts us big time because now it might be a night game and Lord knows where, so we could lose home-field advantage,” Goater told The Royal Gazette after the match was called off.
“There’s a lot more involved and then you have work status, so this is big disappointment for us.”
The BRA and its president have yet to reply to numerous requests for comment since the match on Sunday.
