Logan Jimenez signs first pro contract with Hibernian
Bermuda Under-17 captain Logan Jimenez has signed his first professional contract with Hibernian Football Club.
Jimenez was offered the contract after excelling in the academy at the Scottish club and was still all smiles hours after signing his deal on Monday afternoon.
“It was an amazing feeling and I woke up today really excited,” Jimenez told The Royal Gazette.
“It was an unreal feeling to wake up knowing that you are going to sign your first professional contract. A lot of hard work has paid off and it’s a great feeling.
“Last Tuesday I went to my coach to ask him if I was going to get offered something and my agent had also spoken to Gareth [Evans, academy director] beforehand and here I am signing today.”
Jimenez, who starred on home soil during Bermuda’s recent Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers, moved to Scotland in 2020 and is delighted that his family’s decision has been vindicated as he prepares to take his first shots on goal as a professional.
“I’ve been in Scotland just under five years,” he said.
“It’s been challenging and has had its tough moments with different cultures, but it’s all paid off now. I think I’ve adapted well to the culture and the football, as it’s at a different level, but I’ve had a lot of family support through the tough times.”
The age of 16 can be tough for any teenager ,but there are plenty of promising players who need to deal with rejection at that time in their lives. However, Jimenez is one of the lucky few to have made it past the culling stage, and his confidence is soaring as a result.
“This is definitely a huge confidence boost and I feel like I could go out in the next game and get ten goals,” he said. “My confidence is so high now; it’s through the roof.”
As for the burning question on everyone’s lips, what is Bermuda’s newest professional footballer preparing to buy with his first pay packet?
“I’ll probably buy some cologne or a new pair of football boots,” Jimenez said.
