Bermuda squad announced for under-17 World Cup qualifiers
Bermuda have made two changes as the squad for the final round of the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers, which starts in Mexico on Monday.
While the bulk of the players who secured one of the best runners-up slots in Puerto Rico in the first stage of the tournament at the beginning of February have been retained, Karis Brooks-Smith has been called up to replace Ja'Shay Trott while Miyari Trott comes in for Azae Burrows.
Brooks-Smith was part of a large contingent of under-17 players who gained valuable experience at the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 qualifiers in Trinidad & Tobago last month.
Taya Rodrigues, Jayla Peets-Butterfield, Saony Trott, Avani Patton, and Keyandae Lightbourne were the other under-17 players in the under-20 squad.
Bermuda get the ball rolling in group A with two tough assignments against some of the highest-seeded teams in the Concacaf region. First up is an encounter with Mexico on Monday, followed by Haiti on Wednesday before they clash with Costa Rica, a side that also came through the qualifiers, three days later.
Gary Adams’s side has to win the group or finish as the best runners-up from the three groups to qualify for the Fifa Women's World Cup to be played in Morocco from October 17 to November 8.
