Watch: Jutorre Burgess on target as Harborough stay in promotion hunt
Jutorre Burgess, the Harborough Town winger, is grateful to have helped his team bolster their promotion hopes in the Southern League Premier Division Central at the weekend.
The Bermudian winger’s fifth goal of the season in the 87th minute earned the home side a 1-1 draw with former league leaders Halesowen Town, who include Milan Butterfield in their team.
Burgess ran on to Dempsey Arlott-John’s pass and slid the ball into the bottom right corner to cancel out Conor Tee’s opener only 40 seconds into the second half.
“It’s always good getting on the scoresheet,” Burgess told The Royal Gazette. “The team battled well and showed determination to fight until the end.
“Even when we went 1-0 down straight after half-time, we were very relaxed and knew that we could get something out of this game.”
Harborough occupy the fourth and final play-off position heading down the home stretch of the season.
The Bees are fifth in the standings ahead of Stratford Town on goal difference and eight points adrift of new leaders Bedford Town, who they will face next.
“We just have to keep pushing for the last five games that we will treat all like finals,” added the former Hamilton Parish and Brooke House College academy player, who was promoted from Harborough’s emerging talent programme last September.
The match on Saturday at Bowden Park did not go without incident, as tempers boiled over among fans at the ground.
An altercation involving between six and eight supporters is under investigation by Harborough Town management.
“Harborough Town will be reviewing the incident and anyone from Harborough Town who is found to be involved will be subject to a club disciplinary process, following which the board will take the appropriate action,” a club statement read.
“Video evidence from both clubs will be reviewed and we will work closely with Halesowen Town FC to identify these half a dozen or so individuals who tried to ruin a great afternoon enjoyed for the majority.
“Harborough Town FC fully condemn this type of behaviour and will not tolerate this within our grounds. We would also like to apologise to both our own supporters and those from Halesowen Town FC for any distress this may have caused.”
