Watch: Nahki Wells hits winner to fire Bristol City into play-off places
Nahki Wells scored the winning goal for Bristol City as they moved into the play-off places in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Wells scored Bristol City’s second goal in the 2-1 victory at home to Watford to fire his team into sixth position in the league with just six games of the season to play.
The Bermudian struck with his left foot in the 29th minute to give his side a two-goal lead after Ross McCrorie had put the Robins ahead in the 24th minute. Wells was substituted in the 64th minute, 15 minutes before Watford pulled a goal back through Mamadou Doumbia.
Victory pushes City into the last play-off spot on 60 points from 40 games, the same as fifth-placed Middlesbrough, and a point ahead of the Frank Lampard-coached Coventry City.
After the match, City coach Liam Manning was asked about Wells, who is now on nine goals for the season.
“All the credit must go to Nahki,” Manning said. “He takes such good care of himself, and you just look at him and know he is such a top professional.
“He’s the senior one of the group and there is a responsibility we put on him in terms of being a role model and making sure everyone is in a good spot. He always steps up and today we see his qualities in terms of how he leads the line.
“It’s not just the goals he scores but how he leads the line defensively, the little bumps off long balls. He does so many little things that someone of his experience has picked up along the way.”
This week is shaping up to be a busy one for Wells, with City taking on eighth-placed West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening.
