Jakeem Jennings extended his scoring streak by netting both goals in Harborough Town's convincing 2-0 away win against Hednesford Town on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old Bermudian wscored his fifth and sixth goal of the campaign in Harborough’s final game of the Midland Football League Development Division season.

Jennings, the son of Keith Jennings, the Southampton Rangers player-coach and former Village midfielder, broke the deadlock during a fluid move that involved compatriot Bakari Furbert.

Furbert linked up down the right flank with Archie O’Donnell, who picked out Kai O’Keefe. His clever dummy created space and opened the door for Jennings to calmly slot home.

Jennings, who played locally for North Village before relocating to England, then doubled the young Bees’ advantage.

Reece Loyal threaded a precision pass down the right channel to O’Keefe, who unselfishly squared the ball across goal for Jennings to finish clinically and send Harborough into the break with a two-goal cushion.

Harborough manager Josh Unsworth hailed his team’s dominate display, which secured them third place in the standings, and was particularly impressed by the contributions of Bermudian pair Jennings and Furbert.

“It was a dominant performance from us and I’m incredibly proud,” Unsworth said. “The first goal in particular, the pass, the awareness from Kai and the finish from Jakeem was super good.

“Bakari was absolutely outstanding, starting attacks from the No 6 role and then killing attacks against us. Wow, what a player.”

Harborough will now shift their attention to the upcoming Under-23 Midland League Trophy semi-final against an opponent yet to be determined as they seek to end the season with silverware.

“Our aim is to get silverware at the end of the season as a reward for all our hard work,” Jennings said.

Unsworth’s team thumped Sutton United Reserves 8-0 to advance to the last four in the competition, with Jennings rounding off the scoring at The Bee Hive.

“It feels good to top our group and get to the semi- final,” Jennings said. “We have beat some tough opponents quite convincingly due to the work we do in training and analysis to make sure we are prepared for the game.”

Jennings is grateful to be thriving again after missing a significant portion of the season through an ankle injury, while he and Furbert are among a trio of Bermudians at the club, which also includes senior squad player Jutorre Burgess.

Burgess was recently named Harborough Town’s Young Player of the Year during the club’s annual awards ceremony having impressed in his debut season with the Southern League Premier Division Central side’s first team since being promoted from their emerging talent programme last September.
