CFA Society offers financial literacy series
CFA Society Bermuda’s popular financial literacy series returns to the Bermuda College beginning February 23.
The organisation said the four-part series was designed for anyone who was looking to learn more about personal finance and basic financial literacy concepts. The course is part of the college’s offerings in its PACE programme.
The CFA Society said it recognised the importance of providing individuals with basic financial skills and had designed a financial literacy course to educate and empower members of the public on how to create healthy spending and saving habits. The presenters are members of the society and have specific expertise in financial matters.
Society president Miguel DaPonte said: “Those of us who volunteer to present the course do so because we believe in the importance of practical financial education. We want to help empower the community to increase financial security. Because, with increased financial security, should come less financial anxiety and less stress.”
Mr DaPonte added: “Understanding decisions around your money is no different than understanding any other decisions you make in your life. It’s about being aware and using the knowledge and skills that you have to make choices.
“Financial education focuses on the concept, the facts. It provides the information. In our financial literacy course, we go beyond the information to help you turn the knowledge into action by giving you ways to practically apply the concepts.
“We take you through the process to understand how your values create a framework to determine your goals. From there, you can see how your money plays a part in achieving what is important to you.”
Topics covered in the series include the basics of budgeting and savings; understanding income, expenses and debt; and planning for retirement.
The series will be offered from 6pm until 9pm on February 23, March 2, March 9, and March 16. The cost is $80.
