Abir: record number of insurance internships
A record number of students in Bermuda are gaining summer work experience at local insurers and reinsurers.
According to the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, its members are hosting 103 interns in total this summer.
The Abir Intern Working Group is also providing “networking, professional development and industry learning opportunities,” the association said.
Founded in 1993, Abir represents the interests of property and casualty insurers and reinsurers.
“Internships help to build relationships between Bermuda’s re/insurance industry and young Bermudian leaders of the future. Abir’s member companies are committed to providing opportunities for Bermudian students to experience the re/insurance industry, build their professional networks and enhance their career prospects,” said Pina Albo, chairwoman of Abir and chief executive of the Hamilton Insurance Group.
In the programme, Abir worked with Focus Point Photography to get professional headshots of interns taken for their resumes and held a climate round table hosted by Chubb, while a diversity, equity and inclusion strategist held a session on interviewing and networking.
At the end of the summer, a networking event will be held.
Companies and associations offering internships this summer were: Abir, Aeolus, AIG, Aon, Arch Capital Group, Ariel Re, Ascot Group, Aspen, Chubb, Conduit Re, Convex, Everest Re, Fortitude Re, Guy Carpenter, Hamilton Insurance Group, Hannover Re, Hiscox Re & ILS, Lockton Re, Marsh, Mosaic Insurance. PartnerRe, RenaissanceRe, Validus Reinsurance and Willis Towers Watson.
“It’s great to see Bermudian students taking the record number of internship opportunities with Abir member companies this summer. Building a strong pipeline of Bermudian talent is key to the sustainability of the island’s world-leading re/insurance industry,” said John Huff, president and CEO of Abir.
