Easter Eggstravaganza aims to bring people together
What helps to pull both individuals and communities together is one-on-one communications and interactions. Take, for example, just bumping into someone at the grocery store or at a restaurant.
We are bound to spend at least five minutes talking to someone we have not seen in a while or catching up on friends and family business while pushing that shopping cart or waiting for your food.
Those brief moments are what helps to keep us connected to one another. At other times we have to create events in order to bring diverse people together.
Last year, senator Lindsay Simmons took the initiative to start the “Easter Eggstravaganza”, an event with the aim of bringing the people of Devonshire and Smith’s together. Along the way she “roped in” her fellow area representatives to assist.
The event was held at the Whitney Institute and proved to be quite a hit among hundreds of people of all ages. Most importantly, young people were seen running up and down together.
Today the Easter Eggstravaganza will be held at Elliot Primary School from 12pm to 6pm. There will be free food, including hot cross buns and fishcakes. To acknowledge the cultural diversity of our island, a generous donor is providing some Malassada or Portuguese doughnuts.
Music provided by Silas Corday aka DJ Young Si.
An Easter egg hunt will take place and in true Bermuda fashion our Gombeys will close out the event.
We invite and encourage folks to bring their chairs, and bring your love of our island. This is how we demonstrate to our young people that we are indeed one family.
